Warrigal's Gallery of Inspirational People to Highlight the Importance of Changing Ageist Perspective

A photographic gallery featuring captured professional portraits, stories and memories from inspiring past and present Warrigal residents, villagers and home care customers is being assembled at Shellharbour Civic Centre.

Featuring 14 valued members of the Warrigal community, including eight centenarians, the ‘Wisdom in their Words’ exhibition showcases each person’s individuality as well as advice they’d like to pass on to future generations.

Tying in with ‘Ageism Awareness Day’ on October 7th, Warrigal is hoping to draw attention to the importance of changing the community’s perspective on ageing and older people.

Warrigal CEO, Mark Sewell said, “Ageism Awareness Day is a chance to highlight the existence and impacts of ageism across the country. This is absolutely essential to changing attitudes, and forming a community where people of all ages feel valued and respected, and their contributions are acknowledged.”

“There is so much wisdom to be gained from the lives and experiences of our older people. This is an opportunity to fight the negative ageing stigma and celebrate older people’s individuality, and to preserve good advice for the younger generations.”

Warrigal will also be launching an online art gallery on the day, providing an opportunity for everyone to experience the ‘‘Wisdom in their Words’ exhibition from anywhere, and at any time.
